Summer Afghan

I finished the Summer afghan, using the patches from June, July, and August.

I crocheted a simple black border around the edge, and sewed flannel to the back to hide the yarn ends. Then I put yarn ties all through it, to add support. 

And now I've entered it in the California State Fair....wish me luck! 

The fair isn't until July, but I might find out this month if I've won. 

Sorry about the time delay! I won Honorable Mention; hooray!

Knitting Spot

The last patch of this project! This is me, sitting on my grey living room sofa, with the basket of yarn at my side. It's where I've been every day for a whole year! I will show pictures in a few weeks of the finished blankets. So check back occasionally. Thanks for following along with me on this knitting journey ;)

Friendly World

Thanks to my knitting project, and the internet, I now have lovely new friends from all over the world! With one click on my computer, I have shared knitting and stories with people from countries such as Sweden, Russia, Norway, Australia, Canada, Japan, Iceland, Poland, Belgium, Holland, Turkey, Greece, China, Finland, Brazil, Argentina, New Zealand, India, South Korea and Bolivia!

Mardi Gras

 King Cake is a special treat during Mardi Gras. It's a doughnut-shaped, praline-filled cake with purple, green and yellow sprinkles on the icing. A tiny baby is hidden inside, and whomever gets the piece with the baby will have good luck. Next Tuesday is the official Fat Tuesday, but I love king cake so much that I bought 2 cake kits this year! 

Teapot

This teapot used to belong to my great grandmother. When the tea is poured, it plays music!

China Cabinet

My curio cabinet, which sits in my entryway. It's filled with relics from the past - Waterford, Lladros, Hummels, Gold Imari. Most of these were wedding gifts. It's a different world now. When my daughter gets married, I doubt that porcelain and crystal will be among the main gifts. 

Polaroid Selfie

This picture was for a photo contest on Instagram, called #polaroidshoutout. 

The idea was to get creative with a Polaroid-shaped frame. 

I really liked my actual photos best, but I only feature knitting on my Instagram account. (My account is @suregal27)

This is modeled after the pillow on my sofa. 

Folsom Prison

This is the famous Folsom Prison that Johnny Cash sang about. My hometown is Folsom, and the prison is a favorite city landmark. It looks like a bit like a castle, on the outside. 

Taco Tuesday

Many Fast-food restaurants which sell Mexican food, will offer a special deal for their tacos on Tuesdays. Our favorites are the fish tacos at Rubios. 

Presidents Day

Lincoln is my favorite. I love his profile on the penny. 

Pancake breakfast

My husband loves to cook breakfast for all of us. His favorite morning meal is the pancake breakfast.

This table is against the wall, in the middle of my stairwell. The ceramic bouquet of flowers was givien to me by my mother-in-law Helen.

Bridge

This is Rainbow Bridge, one of 3 bridges in my town. I couldn't knit an exact image due to the size limitations of my patches, but I wanted to put the bridge in anyway :)

Camellia Blossom

My camellia bush is in full bloom. The blossoms look like the icing on top of cupcakes. One year, I put the blossoms in cupcake wrappers on a silver tray. They did look yummy!
